April 9th update
Dear Parents and Families,
It is my pleasure to announce the Child Care Board has hired Gwendolyn Hudson-Henderson to be the new director of the Fairmount Child Care. Gwendolyn is an active member here at Fairmount and very active in many of the ministries here at the church. In addition Gwendolyn is an accomplished educator, life coach, and former military officer with over three decades of experience in education, training, and leadership. Holding an Education Specialist degree from George Washington University (2006), a Master of Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma (1995), and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Norfolk State University (1991), she has built a career centered on curriculum development, coaching, and public speaking.
Currently, Gwendolyn runs Kiwi Injection Life Coaching LLC in Richmond, VA, guiding individuals and small groups toward personal growth. From 2020 to 2022, she served as Dean of Academics at Elijah House Academy, where she overhauled the academic program, managed a team of twenty, and introduced innovative curriculum changes for K-8 education. Her extensive teaching experience spans roles as an online teacher with VIPKid and Cambly, a homeschool educator, and an educational leader with Classical Conversations, where she tutored diverse subjects and launched a debate club.
Earlier in her career, Gwendolyn was a Diabetes Care Specialist at Eli Lilly and Company, leveraging pharmacological expertise to support patients, and a United States Army Officer, leading Chemical Corps and Military Intelligence units across multiple global postings. With a passion for emotional intelligence and training, Gwendolyn continues to inspire and educate across various platforms.
She will start on Monday, April 14th and I hope you will all make her feel welcome and her first week a smooth one. Thank you so much for your patience and support as this process has played out. My final day as Director will be this Friday, April 11th. While I’ll not be here day-to-day I’ll be working with Gwendolyn to help her get to know your children and prepare the Child Care for our summer program.
Please be in prayer for the child care as we begin this new chapter. I’m very excited for what is in store.

March 18th update
Dear Parents and Families,
After nearly two decades of serving our child care community, I want to share some bittersweet news with you. I will be stepping down as Director of Fairmount Christian Child Care in the coming weeks to take on a new role within Fairmount Christian Church. A new director will be named soon, and I am confident that this transition will be smooth and seamless for our staff, children, and families.
This was not an easy decision for me. I have been honored to serve as Director since June, 2005 and have been part of this child care family since September, 1997. Over the years, I’ve watched our program grow, and I’ve cherished the relationships we’ve built together. However, after much prayer and reflection, I feel this new position is where God is calling me to serve next, and I am excited to follow that path.
Please rest assured that this change will not impact our day-to-day operations or the summer program we have planned. I am working closely with the Fairmount Child Care Board of Directors and will assist the new director as they come onboard to ensure they will come in ready to go and eager to meet you and your children.
Thank you for entrusting me with your children over the years—it has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I look forward to staying connected within our church community and seeing your families thrive.
With gratitude,
Larry Haake
Director, Fairmount Christian Child Care
